Language Arts: We will continue reading A Day's
Work. A tes twill be given over the story on Tuesday. We will also have a
singular and plural noun test on Tuesday. Wednesday we will have our test over
context clues. We have been reviewing these skills all week. Please look over
the papers your child has brought home. On Thursday we will begin learning
about text features as our new reading skill. Look for worksheets to be sent
home to review.
The spelling pretest will be on Thursday with the final test on Friday.
Spelling words for next week: sunglasses, football, homework,
haircut, popcorn, railroad, snowstorm, earring, scarecrow, blueberry,
butterflies, lawnmower, campground, goodnight, toothbrush, thumbtack,
earthquake, scrapbook, courthouse, whirlpool
Math-We are working hard as we learn the propertis of
multiplication. We are focusing on the distributive and associative
properties. The students are still taking timed multiplication tests. Please
practice with your child at home. We have finished 2's, 4's and 5's. Right now
your child should be memorizing their 3's.

Cash
Math: We will
continue learning multiplication strategies next week. Along with
memorizing facts, the students need to be able to draw diagrams to solve
multiplication problems. These include models and arrays. We will be
working on 3's and 4's next week. Please help your child memorize these
facts at home.
Cash Reading :
We will
continue to focus on main idea with a test on Thursday. Study Island
is a great way to study for this test. We will also continue to read The Courage
of Sarah Noble. Please look for reading assignments over this book. We will
not have spelling words next week due to Pioneer Day on Monday and being out on
Election Day.
Science: We are learning about animals and
their traits. Please review the study guide each night.

Cash Reading : We will read My Rows and Piles of Coins.
Character traits are the reading skill that will be covered next. Compound
sentences will be our grammar skill. Please check for a book to come home on
Monday, October 8th and also the following Monday to read for
homework. This story will be taught for 2 weeks. The spelling test,
grammar, and reading test will be on Thursday, Oct. 11. The spelling
pretest will be the on Wednesday, October 10th.

shower, hour, amount, voyage, choice, avoid, thousand, prowl, employ, bounce,
poison, annoy, broil, challenge words: however, mountain, coward,
turmoil, chowder.

Math: Next week we will begin a unit on representing and
interpreting data. This will include bar graphs, picture graphs, and line
plots. We will also be reviewing other skills such as 3 and 4 digit
addition and subtraction with regrouping. The students will also be working
on their math journals. Expect homework most nights.

Language Arts-This week we will continue to read What
About Me. We have been learning more about sequence with this story. The
sequence and compare/contrast test will be on Wednesday, along with the spelling
pretest. The reading and final spelling test will be on Thursday. Remember, if
your child makes an A on the pre test they don't have to take the final test on
Thursday. This can be free time. In writing we are working on writing a
paragraph. This will be their grammar grade next week. We will not have a
grammar test
Math-The math test has been pushed to Tuesday. After that we will begin a new unit on
representing and interpreting data. We will also be reviewing a lot with math
computation. Look for some practice sheets to be sent home.

Cash
Math: The students had a quiz today on the properties of addition
and estimation. We will continue to add and subtract 3 digit numbers
with estimation. We will also be learning some problem solving
strategies. We've been focusing on addition, but we will start subtraction
on Monday. Our final test will be next Friday.

next week will be What about Me? We
will begin this on Tuesday. We will continue to study sequence and
review compare/contrast as our main skill. In grammar we will be focusing
on how to write a paragraph.The spelling test will be on Thursday of the following
week with a pretest on Wednesday. Spelling Words: clean,
agree, teeth, dream, grain, coach, display, window, shadow, cheese, peach,
braid, Sunday, float, thrown. Bonus: entertain, complain, bleachers, willow,
and wheat.
